In a new interview with Argentina's UnDinamo - La Ăšltima Radio De Rock, IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith shared his thoughts on the use of artificial intelligence (A.I.) as a compositional tool.
When asked about A.I.-generated music, Smith replied, "No, I don't like it.
I mean, people seem to be craving more reward with less effort." He also expressed concerns that the increasing reliance on digital tools and AI could lead to a loss of human touch in music-making.
When referencing some bands' reliance on backing tracks during live shows, Adrian added, "A.I., it just makes me shiver.
And when you hear about bands canceling gigs, 'cause they've lost their laptop computer — I mean, come on." He also touched upon the topic of record industry struggles due to music streaming, saying that "people aren't getting paid or can't earn any money out of music anymore." When asked if he thinks A.I.
is a threat to younger musicians, Adrian stated, "Yeah, it's difficult for young bands now, difficult for young bands." He reflected on the fact that records are becoming obsolete due to streaming platforms and people expecting free music.
The interview marked another instance where Adrian weighed in on the debate about AI-generated music, previously discussing the topic with Andrew McKaysmith of the Scars And Guitars podcast."
