During an appearance on the February 24 episode of SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Wolfgang Van Halen spoke about his possible involvement with the album that VAN HALEN drummer Alex Van Halen has been working on with TOTO guitarist Steve Lukather.

Earlier this month, Alex told Gastão Moreira of Brazil's Kazagastão that "most" of the recordings for the upcoming album feature bass playing from Wolfgang, Eddie's son and former VAN HALEN bassist, because "these are recordings that were made ready for the next VAN HALEN record." Wolfgang clarified his involvement with the project, stating: "I haven't played anything yet.

So, I'm not sure what Al is talking about in that respect...

They could be older ideas that maybe we worked on 15 years ago or something..." Alex Van Halen has been working on a collection of previously unreleased, unfinished VAN HALEN recordings with Lukather's assistance.

The VAN HALEN drummer said of the project: "Ed and Steve Lukather were very good friends and they often worked together.

There is no one who can do this process with me as well as he can..." Lukather responded to Alex's comments, saying: "Did Alex say that? Oh, in that case the news is true...

Ed, Alex and I were very close for years.

It is true that we worked on it together." Alex Van Halen has previously stated that there was enough VAN HALEN material in the vaults for another "three or four records".

The project aims to complete these unfinished recordings, with Lukather serving as a co-producer rather than playing guitar on the album.

Eddie Van Halen and Steve Lukather had collaborated on several projects in the past, including Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and Steve's debut solo album.
