Legendary drummer Alex Van Halen, co-founder of the iconic band, has announced he is working on a new album with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather.
During an interview with Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain on Metal Sticks podcast, Van Halen revealed that he and Lukather are collaborating on a project along with other musicians.
Although the band's future remains unclear, the announcement has reignited interest in Van Halen's extensive archive of unreleased material.
The band last released a studio album in 2012 and has been inactive since Eddie Van Halen's death in 2020 due to throat cancer at age 65.
While details about the collaboration are scarce, the friendship between Van Halen and Lukather provides context for their partnership, as they often worked together in the past.
Last year, a Dutch newspaper reported that Alex was working with Lukather on unfinished Van Halen recordings, which Lukather later confirmed, only to walk back his statements on Instagram stating he will not play any guitar notes on a Van Halen song.
Alex has expressed that the band's vault contains enough high-quality material for multiple albums and has previously stated they could release 'three or four' more records.
In 2024, Alex released the full six-minute version of 'Unfinished,' the final song he wrote with Eddie Van Halen.
