In a recent interview with Extreme Vocal Institute’s Behind the Screams podcast, produced and hosted by vocal coach David Benites, former Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz discussed her newly released debut solo single, “The Room Where She Died,” taken from her forthcoming solo album.
The music for the track was written by Kamelot keyboardist Oliver Palotai, while White-Gluz handled all vocal performances and lyrics. She also developed the script for the accompanying music video, which was produced by Serbian video production company iCODE Team.
Speaking about her creative process, White-Gluz emphasized the importance of visual storytelling.
“I love music videos. I love the art of telling a story visually to accompany a song,” she said. “It’s not going to come out at the same time as an Arch Enemy album, because that’s just not a good idea.”
Addressing the sound of her solo material, White-Gluz said it represents a departure from her work with Arch Enemy.
“It doesn’t really sound like Arch Enemy,” she said. “It’s still me, so it’s going to sound a little bit like Arch Enemy, but it’s different. I can still play it, but it’s not my main instrument.”
White-Gluz also discussed collaborations on the album, which include guitarist Jeff Loomis and Palotai. Reflecting on past songwriting dynamics, she explained why Loomis did not contribute material during her time with Arch Enemy.
“Jeff didn’t write with Michael [Amott], because Michael was already writing so well with Daniel [Erlandsson] that we actually had too many ideas,” she said.
Arch Enemy played its final show of the European Blood Dynasty tour on November 15, 2025, in DĂĽsseldorf, Germany. The band officially parted ways with White-Gluz later that month after releasing four studio albums together: War Eternal (2014), Will to Power (2017), Deceivers (2022), and Blood Dynasty (2025).
On November 23, 2025, the band confirmed the split in a social media statement: “Arch Enemy have parted ways with singer Alissa White-Gluz. We’re thankful for the time and music we’ve shared and wish her all the best.”
White-Gluz said she hopes her solo album will be released in 2026 and receive focused attention on its own terms.
