In a new interview with Australia's Heavy, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian spoke about his ongoing physical health struggles.

Specifically, he addressed how his body has been holding up during the band's live performances, particularly as they prepare to embark on a four-date Australian tour later this month.

Ian explained that he injured his back during the group's January cruise stint aboard the 70000 Tons Of Metal boat.

Adverse weather conditions forced them off course and onto the ocean where temperatures plummeted and winds howled at 40mph.

The resulting show outdoors on the pool deck with 3,000 fans in attendance made it 'literally freezing fucking cold.' Ian admitted that his physical condition made it difficult for him to perform without exacerbating a pre-existing back issue.

He confessed to experiencing spasms during some nights of their Canadian tour with MEGADETH and EXODUS, which required him to see massage therapists and osteopaths daily.

The guitarist stated he was 'maybe 40%' on his best nights, unable to jump or stomp due to the ongoing pain.

Nonetheless, Ian emphasized that he takes care of himself through regular exercise and has been working hard to regain strength ahead of their Australian tour.

He cited fellow metal veteran Dee Snider's recent retirement announcement as an inspiration, stating that physical limitations can indeed force a musician to reevaluate their priorities.
