Thrash metal legends Anthrax are tentatively set to release their long-awaited new studio album in May, arriving in North America via Megaforce Records and in Europe through Nuclear Blast.
Mixing — along with portions of the recording — took place at Studio 606>, owned by Dave Grohl, in Northridge, California. The band once again teamed up with producer Jay Ruston, who previously helmed For All Kings (2016) and Worship Music.
Bassist Frank Bello revealed the expected release window during an interview with Long & McQuade host Dan Coniglio. Speaking about the record, Bello said:
“The record will come out in May. I’m very proud. It’s so heavy. Some parts are really hard to play — really hard to play — which I’m happy to say, ’cause I like the challenge.
Joey’s vocals — I don’t understand how he can still sing like that, but he’s killing it. If you like the last two records and the past stuff, I think everybody’s gonna be happy. It’s been 10 years since the last album, so we made sure it’s worthwhile.”
Frontman Joey Belladonna once again handles vocal duties.
In related news, drummer Charlie Benante confirmed he recently completed the album cover. He collaborated with artist Mark Stutzman, known for his conceptual work on Do Not Attempt, the recent series starring David Blaine.
Benante explained that he discovered Stutzman’s work while watching the documentary series and felt it perfectly matched the visual direction he envisioned for the album. After reaching out, the collaboration came together naturally, with the artist also being a fan of the band.
