U.S. metalcore band AS I LAY DYING has completed recording its ninth studio album, set for release in early 2027 via Napalm Records. The album follows 2024's "Through Storms Ahead" and will feature 12 tracks, with the intent to include 10 for final release. Two songs, "Polarized" and "Retribution", are being previewed to fans starting September 15. "Polarized" features melodic, mid-tempo elements with singing, while "Retribution" is a fast, dark, and heavily instrumental track. Fans will be invited to vote on whether both songs belong on the final record, with the majority of the album positioned between these two extremes.

A previously released song, "Throwback", was cited as a nod to the band's breakthrough 2004 album "Shadows Are Security". Though the track is described as more modern in execution, it retains a nostalgic feel and was praised by bassist Chris Clancy as a piece that "captured you". The new album marks the debut of AS I LAY DYING's current lineup, which includes Tim Lambesis on vocals, Chris Clancy on bass and clean vocals, Bill Hudson and Don Vedda on guitar, and Tim Yeung on drums.

The band previously experienced a series of lineup changes, with four members—guitarist Phil Sgrosso, drummer Nick Pierce, guitarist Ken Susi, and bassist Ryan Neff—leaving in late 2024. The 2024 European tour was canceled, and internal personal issues have been previously reported, including a 2014 conviction for a murder-for-hire plot involving his first wife. In 2025, a post by guitarist Nick Hipa denounced Tim Lambesis as a "sociopathic narcissist in definite need of rehabilitation". Despite these controversies, the band has resumed activity with new music and a new lineup.

The ninth studio album will be the first to feature a full lineup since 2024, following a period of instability and personal turmoil.
