Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At the Gates have begun teasing a new album titled The Ghost Of A Future Dead, with an official announcement and further details expected soon.
This news comes as the band mourns the loss of founding vocalist Tomas Lindberg, who passed away in September 2025 following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment.
'Tomas passed away this morning following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment,' the band wrote in a heartfelt statement honoring their longtime frontman.
'He was an inspiration to us all.' The album will be Lindberg's final appearance with the band, marking the end of an era for one of metal's most iconic and influential vocalists.
Tragically, Lindberg had been battling adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), a rare and aggressive cancer that was first diagnosed in December 2023.
In a deeply personal statement written in March 2025 and shared publicly in August, Lindberg reflected on his struggle: 'It has been a very tough year.' The album itself is described by Lindberg as a creative reunion and a return to form for the band, with a blend of ferocity reminiscent of their classic era and modern resurgence.
