Polish extreme metal titans BEHEMOTH have announced the cancelation of their scheduled performance on March 3 in Bangalore, India.
The decision comes after the band and their team received numerous credible threats from religious Christian groups who applied pressure to authorities and the promoter to stop the show.
Despite efforts by the local promoter to ensure the band's safety, BEHEMOTH feels it cannot obtain sufficient assurances that they would be protected from legal consequences or security risks.
This cancellation is the latest in a series of high-profile events where artists have faced intimidation, threats, or the risk of imprisonment for performing their art.
BEHEMOTH was set to perform alongside metallers NIDHOGG at Phoenix Marketcity in Bengaluru as part of their "Chant Of The Eastern Lands" tour.
The band's India return was presented by SkillBox and their festival and gig series BigHorn.
BEHEMOTH has faced similar controversies in the past, including the cancellation of their scheduled performances in Turkey earlier this month and a high-profile case in Poland involving their social media activities.
The band will continue to perform for fans around the world despite these challenges.
