The Butthole Surfers have officially announced their upcoming album "After The Astronaut", due on June 26, 2026 via Sunset Blvd.
A new music video for the second single "Imbuya" has also been released.
The song showcases the band's ability to blend psych rock with industrial and punk elements.
"Imbuya" was conceived as a meaningless song, fitting in with the band's ethos of being absurd yet relevant.
The album is a tour-de-fart featuring acid-drenched soundscapes and Haynes's stream-of-consciousness vocals.
It kicks off with the trippy psychedelic cacophony of opening track "Weird Revolution", followed by the grimy proto-industrial synth-grunge of "Intelligent Guy" and the mesmerizing and hypnotic "Yentel".
The band was formed in San Antonio, Texas, bonding over their shared distaste for mainstream music.
They emerged from the 1980s hardcore scene and have been championed by bands like Nirvana, Orbital, and Scratch Acid.
Although they never quite broke up, their legacy continues to inspire other acts.
