The Butthole Surfers' lost album, After The Astronaut, is finally getting an official release on June 26, 2026.

Originally shelved by Capitol Records in 1998 due to its experimental and psychedelic sound, the album was completed but never released.

The band was able to regain rights to the material and will now release it via Sunset Blvd.

Records as intended.

"We were pretty stoked to make another album after the success of our previous album and its single 'Pepper,'" guitarist Paul Leary recalled.

"Capitol Records was stoked to get that next record until our relationship soured." The band worked with a new team, including producer Howie Weinberg on mastering duties, to prepare it for release.

After The Astronaut features Gibby Haynes on vocals and synths, Leary on guitar, bass, and keyboards, and King Coffey on drum machines.

Fans will now be able to experience the intended sound of the band's follow-up album after Electric Larryland.
