In a new interview with Metal Kaoz, TROUBLE singer Kyle Thomas discussed the status of the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s 2013 album The Distortion Field.

According to Thomas, real progress has been made and the music is nearly finished being recorded, though he noted that “things happen very slowly in the world of TROUBLE.” He emphasized that his focus is on crafting strong material rather than technical virtuosity, stressing the importance of taking the time needed to get the music right instead of rushing out a subpar release.

Thomas also spoke about his history with the band, his approach to performing classic TROUBLE songs, and his respect for original singer Eric Wagner, who passed away in August 2021. Acknowledging that he may not be everyone’s cup of tea vocally, Thomas said his priority is honoring the band’s legacy.

The new album is being recorded with producer Bill Metoyer, who also worked on The Distortion Field, TROUBLE’s first studio album in six years at the time of its release. Originally slated for 2020, the album was delayed multiple times before recording finally began in July 2022.

Formed in 1979, TROUBLE released several genre-defining albums including Trouble, Manic Frustration, and Plastic Green Head. Wagner left the band in April 2008 and died at age 62 after a battle with COVID-related pneumonia.
