In a new interview with KillerTube, COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara spoke about the band's return to the stage for last weekend's Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The show marked COAL CHAMBER's first live appearance since drummer Mikey Cox's successful battle with cancer.

Fafara opened up about Cox's journey, saying "That [gig] was insane." He recalled watching Cox go through chemotherapy and radiation treatment, calling it a "fucking miracle" that he survived.

Fafara also praised Cox for being a great father, husband, and man, and revealed that the two bonded over music despite their age difference.

Fafara talked about the emotional moment when they reunited on stage at Sick New World, recalling that "the roof is on fire" could barely be heard above the deafening crowd.

He admitted to busting into tears during the show and expressed his gratitude for Cox's recovery.

COAL CHAMBER played their first two shows in eight years at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in May 2023 and at the Inkcarceration Music And Tattoo Festival in Mansfield, Ohio in July 2023.

The band had previously completed a U.S.

tour as the support act for MUDVAYNE in 2023.

COAL CHAMBER's drummer Mikey Cox was diagnosed with stage three cancer on April 1, 2025, but has since been declared "cancer-free" after undergoing treatment.

Last week Cox revealed that he went through "a yearlong battle and absolutely brutal rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, and eventually surgery.\
