In a new interview with Spiral Out, TOOL drummer Danny Carey confirmed that he and his bandmates are working on material for the follow-up to their latest LP, "Fear Inoculum", which arrived in August of 2019.

The goal is to release the next TOOL LP in 2027.

Carey mentioned that TOOL is a very cinematic band, particularly when it comes to their live shows.

He expressed interest in performing at the Sphere in Las Vegas as part of a potential residency after the group's scheduled tour dates conclude in July 2026.

However, Carey noted that bringing such an endeavor from blueprint to opening night "is pretty intense" and takes time to turn a profit.

Despite not having personally seen a full show at the Sphere, which features a state-of-the-art wraparound screen and powerful sound system, Carey was impressed by its visuals during a tour of the venue.

Carey's comments came as reports emerged in January that METALLICA was "90 percent" done negotiating the terms of a Sphere residency in Las Vegas, set to take place after TOOL's scheduled tour dates conclude in July 2026.

The Sphere has already hosted residencies from legendary rockers such as U2, PHISH, DEAD & COMPANY and THE EAGLES.

TOOL's latest LP, "Fear Inoculum", debuted at No.

1 on Billboard's Top 200 and earned heaps of critical praise, with NPR saying the album was worth the 13-year wait.
