Norwegian black metal institution Darkthrone is celebrating their 40-year anniversary with a new album, Pre-Historic Metal, set to drop on May 8.

This latest offering from the influential band doesn't strictly adhere to traditional black metal form, but instead showcases their characteristic eclecticism and creative spirit.

The album was recorded at Chaka Khan Studios in Oslo, with production work handled by Ole Øvstedal, Silje Høgevold, and Mads Luis.

Mastering duties were assigned to Jack Control at Enormous Door and Maor Appelbaum Mastering.

Pre-orders for the album are currently available on Darkthrone's official website.

Fans can also catch the band live at one of their upcoming tour dates – though it seems a full schedule is not yet confirmed, with more information expected in due course.
