On his recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation with host Eddie Trunk, Dave Mustaine discussed the reasons behind his impending retirement from music.
According to Mustaine, it is due to health issues stemming from years of intense touring, which have caused musculoskeletal problems.
He attributes these issues not only to himself but also to other legendary metal musicians, such as Metallica’s James Hetfield and Slayer’s Kerry King.
In the interview, Mustaine mentioned that when Megadeth did a cover of Metallica's iconic song 'Ride The Lightning', they aimed to honor the original by making it at least as good.
He noted that his vocal parts on the song were distinct from James Hetfield's, reflecting their unique styles.
When discussing Megadeth’s recent success, Mustaine expressed hope for a metal renaissance.
He believes this is evident in the sold-out shows on their upcoming Canadian tour with Anthrax and Exodus.
The tour kicks off on February 15th in Victoria, BC at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, wrapping up on March 6th in Québec City, QC at Videotron Centre.
In other news, Megadeth will be supporting Iron Maiden’s Run For Your Lives World Tour on the 2026 North American dates.
Dates include August 29th to September 30th in Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC.
