In a recent interview with Phil Aston of Now Spinning Magazine, DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Don Airey spoke about the band's extensive tour in support of their latest album, "Splat!", which arrives July 3 via earMUSIC.
The band will embark on an impressive run of European summer dates before heading to North America for a massive 86-show trek across 28 countries.
Airing some candid thoughts on touring life and DEEP PURPLE's enduring legacy, Don recalled his early days with legendary drummer Cozy Powell and how they adapted to the rigorous demands of the road.
"It's funny, I always find it easier to pack for a long tour," he explained.
"Packing for three gigs takes forever, but packing for six months can be done in half an hour." Airey also touched on DEEP PURPLE's ongoing partnership with producer Bob Ezrin, who has helmed every one of their albums since 2013's "Now What?!" The band has released three singles so far from "Splat!", including "Guilt Trippin'", "Diablo", and "Arrogant Boy".
Notably, the album features a guest appearance by Grammy-winning guitarist Keith Urban on second guitar.
Meanwhile, DEEP PURPLE drummer Ian Paice recently spoke with Uncut about his own plans for future music-making, mentioning that he and his bandmates are considering recording another new album in 2027.
Despite discussing potential future endeavors, Paice hinted that the "Splat!" world tour may be DEEP PURPLE's final major long-haul around the globe.
However, with over 120 million albums sold since their formation in 1968, it seems unlikely that this iconic act will be slowing down anytime soon.
