Devin Townsend has released a stand-alone live version of his orchestral-metal album The Moth, titled The Moth (The War – Live in Groningen). The new CD and Blu-ray edition, along with digital audio, is set for release on November 6, 2026. The live performance, originally presented in its entirety on March 27 and 28, 2025, in Groningen, Netherlands, features the North Netherlands Orchestra and Choir conducted by Jukka Isakilla. The recording was part of a live debut of the album, which Townsend has described as his 'life’s work'.

The Moth (The War – Live in Groningen) is now available as a standalone CD and Blu-ray Digipak, following its initial inclusion in the deluxe artbook edition. It will also be offered in a Limited 2CD Edition, Standard CD Jewelcase, and as a Gatefold Triple-Gatefold 180g 2LP with fold-out LP-booklet. The Blu-ray includes the full live film and high-resolution audio mixes of both The Moth and The Moth – The Afterlife.

The album consists of three distinct parts: The Moth, The Moth – The Afterlife, and The Moth – The War (Live). The live segment captures the emotional intensity of the first performance of the project. The orchestral and choral elements were developed through collaboration with Joseph Stevenson and Niels Bye Nielsen, with key contributions from long-time musicians Darby Todd, Mike Keneally, and James Leach, as well as guests including Steve Vai, Anneke van Giersbergen, and Lynn Wu.

The Moth's central theme is true self-acceptance, embodied by the metaphor of a moth drawn to light, ultimately burning itself away to reveal an immutable spirit. The project, over a decade in the making, was initiated after Townsend was approached by the head of the North Netherlands Orchestra and Choir following an acoustic show in Amsterdam.
