In a new interview with Brazilian music journalist Igor Miranda, DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie discussed the band's future plans, including when they will start working on their next album.
The album is expected to be a follow-up to 2025's critically acclaimed release “Parasomnia.” LaBrie stated that the band usually starts discussing ideas for new music after returning from extended tours.
He mentioned that DREAM THEATER will take a break after completing their current world tour in mid-May, and then likely enter the studio to start working on their next album by late 2026 or early 2027.
The drummer Mike Portnoy echoed LaBrie's sentiments, stating that the band needs to wait until they have completed their current commitments before turning their focus towards new music.
Portnoy also revealed plans for a new tour to support the upcoming album, which is scheduled to take place in late 2027 or early 2028.
The progressive metal legends are currently on their ongoing “A Evening With Dream Theater” tour, where they have been performing “Parasomnia” in its entirety, as well as other classics and fan favorites from the band's extensive catalog.
This tour marks Portnoy's return to DREAM THEATER after a 14-year hiatus, during which he pursued various musical projects.
Prior to his return to the band, Portnoy had been working with guitarist John Petrucci on the latter's solo album “Terminal Velocity,” and toured together.
The band's April 22 concert in Santiago, Chile was professionally recorded and filmed for an upcoming Blu-ray release.
The effort will feature a live recording of their 40th-anniversary headlining tour of Europe, which concluded last November with the release of “Quarantième: Live À Paris” via InsideOut Music/Sony Music.
This release documents DREAM THEATER's highly-acclaimed performance at Adidas Arena in Paris, France.
