Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci has shared a lighthearted anecdote with fans after he attempted to take matters into his own hands on stage in Japan.

During their recent show, Petrucci decided to teach a fan who had been filming him the entire night a lesson by trying to snatch his phone.

However, things didn't quite go as planned, and instead of getting footage of the band performing live, the fan ended up with a shaky close-up selfie of Petrucci's beard.

The incident occurred while Dream Theater was playing their song "The Enemy Inside," which features a section that can be played using only the left hand.

After meeting the fan at a VIP meet and greet a couple of days later, Petrucci reportedly laughed off the situation and appreciated the fan's good sportsmanship.

In related news, Dream Theater is currently in the midst of their 40th Anniversary tour, which kicked off on February 18 with a performance at Idea Live in Bangkok, Thailand.

The band's setlist has included a mix of classic songs from their discography, including "The Enemy Inside," as well as some fan-favorite tracks like "Peruvian Skies."
