Finnish progressive metal band End Of Abyss has released its debut album, Escape To A New Empire, today via Inverse Records. The album blends progressive metal, symphonic elements, and powerful storytelling into a cinematic experience rooted in a medieval-inspired fantasy narrative. The story follows a protagonist who joins a group capable of fighting societal enemies through dreams, revealing that the darkest forces within the world mirror real-world institutions and power structures.
The project originated in Jyväskylä, Finland, with lead composer and producer Petrus Syvänperä developing the concept before the first demo in 2010. Over time, the vision evolved from a one-man project into a full band, featuring vocalists Mikko Herranen, guitarists Alpo Pöytäkangas and Juha-Matti "Masa" Berg, and bassist Janne Koskenkorva. Additional performances were contributed by Antti Koivistoinen.
Musically, the album draws inspiration from acts such as Kamelot, Ayreon, Symphony X, and Stam1na, with melodic sensibilities reminiscent of Queen. Each track reveals new layers upon repeated listens, while maintaining a cohesive narrative arc. The album explores themes of escapism, individuality, and the critique of societal systems.
Escape To A New Empire includes the tracks: Vultures, Astral Dreams, One For The Broken, Parasites of the Stream, Incomplete, Fraudulent Rant, Veritas, Island of Isolated Minds, Sound Of Soul, and Escape to a New Empire. The release marks a significant milestone for the band, transitioning from a solo endeavor to a fully realized group project.
