EVERGREY has always been known for pushing the boundaries of progressive metal, but their latest studio album, "Architects of a New Weave", falls short of expectations.

The Swedish band is still led by vocalist and guitarist Tom S.

Englund, whose smooth vocals are a defining trait.

However, the album's songwriting direction takes a step back from their previous efforts, particularly "Theories of Emptiness".

While there are some highlights, such as the driving title track and the stop-start riff couplet on "Chains Of Shame", much of the album relies too heavily on simple riffs and generic vocal melodies.

The loss of longtime drummer Jonas Ekdahl and lead guitarist Henrik Danhage likely had an impact on the songwriting direction.

Despite this, EVERGREY remains one of the finer progressive metal practitioners in Sweden, and fans can expect them to rebound with their next studio album.
