Thrash and groove pioneers EXHORDER have confirmed multiple label interests for a potential follow-up to their 2024 album "Defectum Omnium." The band, which released "Defectum Omnium" via Nuclear Blast Records in March 2024, stated in a recent interview that it is not currently under contract with a label but remains actively engaged with several major and independent labels. One label has expressed strong interest, while another is considered smaller in scope. EXHORDER emphasized that their independence allows them to maintain creative control, though they acknowledged the presence of at least one high-profile label that actively pursues the band.
The band's current lineup includes vocalist and guitarist Kyle Thomas, bassist Jason VieBrooks, and guitarist Pat O'Brien. Thomas, who is the sole remaining founding member, noted that the group's musical evolution began in 1993 after the release of "The Law," when the band shifted from a techy, proggy style to a more groove-oriented sound. This stylistic change, he explained, was already planned and has continued through subsequent releases.
Drummer Sasha Horn left the band in March 2026 to focus on personal life. Corey Pierce of GOD FORBID temporarily filled in during the spring of 2026, but a permanent replacement has not yet been announced. The 2024 album "Defectum Omnium" was recorded at Fat Track Studio in Cincinnati, Ohio, with engineer Rob Nadler, and marked EXHORDER's first release featuring Pat O'Brien, who made his live debut with the band at the 2022 Maryland Deathfest.
EXHORDER, known as a key originator of the power-groove style popularized by PANTERA, continues to evolve its sound while maintaining its core identity. The band confirmed in a 2020 statement that it would fulfill all touring and recording obligations beyond that year, following the departure of original guitarist Vinnie LaBella.
