Filmmaker Matt Zane has announced plans to continue working on his unauthorized documentary about the life and legacy of late STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static.
The project, which was initially met with resistance from the estates of both Wayne Static and his wife Tera Wray, will now move forward as a self-funded endeavor.
This comes after the film's crowdfunding campaign faced significant challenges due to opposition from the estates.
Zane had stated that he remains committed to completing the documentary and will personally finance the project.
Zane believes much of the criticism stems from a lack of awareness about his long-standing personal and professional relationship with Wayne Static and Tera Wray.
Despite facing intense backlash, Zane emphasizes that financial gain has never been his motivation for making the film.
Rather, he aims to honor Wayne Static's wishes and provide a personal account focused on the relationship between Wayne Static and Tera Wray.
The families of Wayne Static and Tera Wray have publicly expressed their disapproval of the project, stating they are not interested in its further development.
However, Zane insists that his film will not conflict with the narrative direction of the official STATIC-X documentary 'Evil Disco - The Rise, Fall, And Regeneration Of Static-X', which is currently in production with the approval of Wayne's estate.
Zane had previously directed multiple music videos for STATIC-X and has maintained a close relationship with the band's members over the years.
His film is intended to be a tribute to Wayne Static and Tera Wray's lives, rather than an attempt to exploit their likenesses or personal stories for financial gain.
In response to the families' request regarding material, Zane stated that he will submit any rare or unseen footage in his possession for review and possible inclusion in the official 'Evil Disco' documentary.
He also confirmed that unreleased Wayne Static music featured in his film would require explicit approval from the estate before release.
