Former MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell has passed away at the age of 64.

His death was announced in a social media post by his band PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS, which he formed with his sons Todd, Dane, and Tyla after leaving MOTÖRHEAD in 2015.

Campbell was a member of MOTÖRHEAD from 1984 to 2015, serving as the band's sole guitarist for its final 20 years.

He appeared on classic releases such as "Orgasmatron," "1916," and "Bastards." With the passing of MOTÖRHEAD founder Lemmy in 2015, Campbell was one of the last surviving members of the iconic metal trio.

In his post-MOTÖRHEAD career, Campbell released a solo record, "Old Lions Still Roar," in October 2019.

The album featured guest appearances by Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Dee Snider (TWISTED SISTER), and Alice Cooper, among others.

PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS released its third album, "Kings Of The Asylum," in September 2023 through Nuclear Blast Records.

In a 2025 interview with Andrew McKaysmith of the Scars And Guitars podcast, Campbell discussed his role in MOTÖRHEAD and addressed a common misconception about his guitar playing.

He stated that most of the band's riffs during his time were indeed created by him, although Lemmy would occasionally contribute his own material.
