In a recent interview with Bass Magazine, former Suicidal Tendencies bassist Roberto 'Ra' Díaz opened up about his unexpected journey to join Korn.

Five years ago, Fieldy announced that he would sit out the band's tour dates to heal after falling back on some of his bad habits.

Díaz said that his recruitment was a result of brainstorming among friends and colleagues.

He explained, "Well, it all happened very quick and kind of out of nowhere." Díaz mentioned that Korn guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch described the situation as a chance to find someone who could fill Fieldy's unique role.

Díaz recalled his first phone call with KORN, where he wasn't told initially about the band he would be playing with.

He said, "I think it's more the person that called me, I think she assumed I already knew [that she was calling about Korn], probably that Ray told me what it was for." The bassist reflected on how his experience playing with Suicidal Tendencies prepared him for joining KORN.

He mentioned seeing them live in Chile and the US but never getting to meet them.

Díaz has been involved in various recording projects, including a Rush covers EP recorded during the pandemic with Charlie Benante, Brandon Yeagley, and Alex Skolnick.

The interview comes as Korn surprise released a new song, "Reward The Scars", part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Diablo IV: Lord Of Hatred expansion pack.

The album, which was produced by Chris Collier and KORN, entered Billboard's Hard Rock Albums chart at No.

1 in February 2022.
