In a new interview with The Jesea Lee Show, FOZZY frontman Chris Jericho addressed the band's ability to stay relevant through evolution.
Speaking on the importance of adapting their sound over time, Jericho noted that even the greatest bands had to change in order to remain successful.
"Every band has a gimmick," Jericho explained.
"SLIPKNOT wears masks.
When METALLICA came out, they played faster than anybody.
KISS had makeup.
All that is great.
FOZZY has a wrestler as a singer." Despite acknowledging the band's unique gimmick, Jericho emphasized that their music was what truly set them apart.
"If we weren't a great rock and roll band with great songs, we wouldn't still be around 25 years later playing festivals high up on the ladder like we are," he stated.
FOZZY recently released their new single "I Know Evil" as part of their ongoing tour activities and their appearances at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple festivals.
This past April, Jericho reflected on his long-term fanbase, including those who have followed him through various facets of his career, such as professional wrestling.
He noted that while he appreciates the dedication of these fans, he also acknowledges the existence of haters who will never like him or FOZZY.
"There's people that still chant 'Y2J' when I do a show," Jericho said.
"And that's fine because that tells me that people remember that era and it means something to them." Despite facing criticism from some, Jericho remains focused on pleasing the fans who support FOZZY.
Jericho also highlighted the band's ability to reinvent themselves over time without betraying their core identity.
He cited METALLICA as an example of a band that had successfully adapted its sound through the years.
"KISS frontman Paul Stanley once said, 'If the career of Chris Jericho is a 35-year elevator, some people get on the bottom floor, some people get on the eighth floor, some people get on right near the top.
As long as you get on, I'm excited,' The statement reflects Jericho's own perspective on building and maintaining a fanbase through continuous evolution.
FOZZY's latest album "Boombox" was released in May 2022 to positive reception from fans and critics alike.
The band consists of Chris Jericho, Rich Ward (guitar), Billy Grey (guitar), Grant Brooks (drums) and P.J.
Farley (bass).
