Ike Willis, the singer and guitarist who spent a decade with Frank Zappa, has died at the age of 70.

His family confirmed the news to Rolling Stone on Saturday, May 16.

A cause of death is not immediately available.

In a statement, Willis' family remembered him as a cherished figure within the Zappa community for his talent, generosity, and humor.

They noted that he was more than just a musician, but also a loving father and mentor to young artists.

Several of Willis' fellow Zappa alums have paid tribute to him online, including drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and Chad Wackerman.

"Ike was so much fun to be around," Wackerman wrote on Facebook.

"His ability to be creative and humorous gave Frank so much joy on stage." Willis joined the group in 1978 and played and recorded with them through the end of Zappa's final tour in 1988.

He appeared on several albums, including Joe's Garage, Tinsel Town Rebellion, and Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar.
