Rush bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee has spoken candidly to MusicRadar about the possibility of new music following the band’s extensive 2026 headline tour, Fifty Something.
The tour will feature Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson revisiting Rush’s catalog with German drummer Anika Nilles. While expectations of new material have remained cautious since the death of Neil Peart in 2020, Lee revealed that creative momentum had already begun before tour preparations took over.
“My intent, before we got into this celebration of Rush’s history, was to put some music together,” Lee said. “I assumed I’d be doing that on my own, not with Alex, but when we started jamming, I started seeing the possibility of doing something with Alex.”
That momentum is now on pause. “All of that went on hold because there’s too much work,” he explained. “There’s too much work to do for this tour to even think about that.” Still, Lee stopped short of ruling anything out. “If we manage to survive the tour, go back to Canada, and have a rest, who knows what’ll happen. But I suspect some music will eventually come out.”
Lee also noted the creative chemistry developing with Nilles, whose technical ability and modern style have drawn strong reactions since the tour announcement.
Rush’s Fifty Something tour runs throughout 2026, with dates across North America.
