In a new interview with Waste Some Time With Jason Green, Canadian guitarist Glen Drover opened up about why he ended up leaving Megadeth more than eight years ago.
According to Drover, the explanation given in January 2008 that he wanted to focus on his family life was not the sole reason for his exit from the band.
Rather, he claimed there were "personal issues beyond that," which he refused to discuss due to their personal nature.
Additionally, he stated there was another situation where he had to step down, although he did not elaborate further.
Drover explained that Musically, however, he was fine, and his departure from Megadeth ended on good terms for the most part, with the band's leader Dave Mustaine reportedly upset but also understanding of the situation.
He went on to reveal that when he left the band, he recommended three guitar players as potential replacements: Jeff Loomis, Jeff Waters, and Chris Broderick.
However, Broderick was the one who ultimately joined Megadeth after Drover's departure.
The guitarist also reminisced about his time with Megadeth during their farewell tour in 2004, saying that he had a lot of good memories from that period, especially from the first two years.
He noted that everyone got along well and had a positive atmosphere within the band.
However, things started to change around six months before his departure, leading him to decide it was time to leave.
Drover also discussed how Megadeth's first tour with him in the band was initially supposed to be a farewell tour, but Mustaine ended up hurting his arm and deciding to keep the band going.
Despite initial plans for a farewell tour, Megadeth went on to become an ongoing concern rather than a one-off event.
Glen Drover is currently involved with the WITHERING SCORN project, which released its debut album 'Prophets Of Demise' via Frontiers Music Srl in July 2023.
The band has since completed work on a follow-up album, scheduled for release later this year.
