Bobby Weir, a founding member of the legendary GRATEFUL DEAD and one of rock's most distinctive rhythm guitarists, has passed away at the age of 78.

Weir succumbed to underlying lung issues after battling cancer.

The family shared the news in a statement, emphasizing Weir's unique artistry that reshaped American music and fostered a sense of community among fans.

Weir's contributions extended beyond GRATEFUL DEAD, earning him recognition as one of the most influential figures in rock history.

His achievements were honored at the Kennedy Center Honors, MusiCares Person Of The Year, and he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, among others.

GRATEFUL DEAD remains one of the most successful touring acts in American history, while Weir also led BOBBY WEIR & WOLF BROS, performing selections from the GRATEFUL DEAD catalog and his solo albums.

He recently collaborated with symphony orchestras across the U.S., culminating in a debut at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2025.
