Mark Kendall, guitarist for GREAT WHITE, has shared that he is currently battling stage four kidney cancer.

In an interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station, Kendall said the diagnosis came after he experienced irregular, bloody urine that was initially mistaken for a urinary tract infection. Further testing revealed a 13-centimeter tumor in his right kidney.

Kendall is undergoing immunotherapy, including regular Keytruda infusions and daily doses of Lenvima, a treatment plan he says has been manageable and has allowed him to remain relatively active.

He also discussed his upcoming autobiography, which he began writing last year. Kendall described the book as a candid account of his life, from his upbringing in Huntington Beach, California, to his years with GREAT WHITE, covering both the highs and the lows.

Citing Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and The Doors as early influences, Kendall emphasized the importance of honesty and emotion in his guitar playing.

Kendall formed DANTE FOX, the precursor to GREAT WHITE, in 1977. The band gained attention after a 1982 performance at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, later going on to sell more than 10 million albums worldwide.

Kendall has been married to his wife Bridget for more than two decades and has four children: Jonathan, Taylor, Shane, and Ashley.
