Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced that iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses will contribute their classic song “Sweet Child O’ Mine” as the ending theme for the latest Gundam installment, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe.

The film opens in theaters today, Friday, January 30. Originally premiering in Japan in 2021, it drew acclaim for its grounded combat sequences and restrained, character-driven dialogue.

The lyrics of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” closely mirror protagonist Hathaway Noa’s emotional state after meeting the enigmatic Gigi Andalucia, making it a thematically fitting choice for the ending.

Originally released in 1987, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” became a cross-generational anthem and Guns N’ Roses’ biggest hit. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1988. Its music video surpassed one billion YouTube views in 2019 and has exceeded 1.8 billion views as of 2026.

Guns N’ Roses—led by Axl Rose alongside Slash, Duff McKagan, and other notable members—rose to prominence with their diamond-certified debut Appetite for Destruction (1987), the best-selling U.S. debut album of all time and the 11th best-selling U.S. album overall.

Synopsis

Set twelve years after Char’s Rebellion, the film follows Hathaway Noa as he becomes entangled in shifting alliances between the Federation Forces and the anti-Federation group MAFTY. Haunted by his past, Hathaway is drawn to Gigi Andalucia, a mysterious young woman whose strange abilities awaken buried memories. As MAFTY prepares to attack the Adelaide Conference, Federation officer Kenneth Sleg and criminal investigator Handley Yoxon pursue their own intersecting agendas.

With its enduring impact and emotional weight, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” closes the film on a resonant note.
