In a new interview with Victor M.
Ruiz of the Signals From Mars podcast, Greek guitar virtuoso Gus G, who served as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist from 2009 to 2017, was asked about his time with the legendary frontman.
Gus recalled being invited to the "Back To The Beginning" charity event, which took place on July 5, 2025 at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
He explained that he wasn't needed for the gig and had other priorities, including a family vacation.
Gus also spoke about his time with Ozzy's backing group, saying it was a highlight of his career but felt like a "dead end" due to the uncertainty of when his services would be needed.
When asked how he found out he was no longer in the group, Gus revealed that Sharon Osbourne personally called him at home to inform him that Zakk Wylde had rejoined Ozzy's band for all upcoming solo show dates.
Gus has since moved on and is happy with where his music career is now.
He reflected on his time with Ozzy as a "highlight" of his career but also acknowledged the uncertainty he faced during his tenure.
Gus's interview with Signals From Mars was transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET.
His comments on being part of Ozzy's legendary backing group were first shared in an interview with TrueMetal.it, while another excerpt from a Guitar World conversation was referenced where Gus discussed the relief he felt after learning about Zakk Wylde rejoining Ozzy's band.
Gus's story serves as a reminder that even for those who achieve their highest ambitions, uncertainty and change are always part of life.
