Founding member Chuck Varga of GWAR has died following a battle with cancer. The announcement was made Friday, September 25, in a social media post by Beefcake The Mighty, also known as Casey Orr, GWAR's bassist. Varga, who served as the performer and creator of The Sexecutioner from 1985 to 2022, passed peacefully with his wife Bambi by his side. His death marks the end of an era for the band, which was founded 42 years ago.

Varga was a central figure in GWAR's artistic vision, contributing to character designs, performances, and the band's over-the-top aesthetic. His work helped define the group's unique identity and influenced generations of fans and artists. In a statement, Bob Gorman, known as Bonesnapper, emphasized the lasting impact of Varga's contributions to GWAR and the Slave Pit collective.

In June, GWAR launched a fundraiser to cover Varga's medical expenses and assist with the maintenance of his Brooklyn apartment while his wife Bambi stepped away from work to care for him. The event highlighted the band's deep connection to Varga and the personal toll of his illness.

Brockie, the band's former frontman under the name Oderus Urungus, died in March 2014 from acute heroin toxicity. He was the last remaining original member of GWAR. With Varga's passing, the band has lost one of its most iconic and influential figures. His legacy in heavy metal remains indelible.
