Gaz Holmes, creator of the 1981-1982 fanzine Skullcrusher, is releasing a CD version of the Steel City Rock cassette to mark its 45th anniversary.

The original tape, compiled during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal era, features Sheffield bands including Alyx, Fallen Angel, and Renegade.

Holmes began Skullcrusher after the dissolution of his band Zayus, self-publishing the fanzine weekly using a Gestetner printer in his kitchen and selling it at gigs and record stores including Virgin Records at the bottom of the Moor and Record Collector.

The Steel City Rock tape was created just before Skullcrusher ended in 1982 and was distributed similarly to the fanzine.

The new CD is being released through Skullcrusher Records, the label Holmes has established.

All proceeds after production costs will support musical activities for people with early onset dementia.

The release is self-initiated and not tied to any major label or commercial promotion.

Details about the CD are available through Skullcrusher Records Facebook page."
