In a new interview with The Morning Call, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE frontman Jesse Leach discusses his spiritual evolution and critique of organized religion.
Leach explains how his upbringing in an evangelical home shaped his worldview, but he has since distanced himself from Christianity due to its contradictions and limitations.
He notes that he is now a spiritual being, humbled by the realization that he doesn't have all the answers.
In 2018, Leach spoke about his early exposure to religion with No-Prize From God, recalling how his family's moves around the country left him feeling like an outsider among other Christian communities.
He also remembers being fascinated by a Rastafarian woman living next door in Philadelphia, while simultaneously internalizing the negative aspects of Christianity due to his upbringing.
Leach criticizes organized religion for its selective focus on issues like same-sex marriage and gay rights, pointing out that such concerns pale in comparison to the world's actual problems.
He also believes that organized religions often prioritize control over people rather than promoting spiritual growth or liberation.
Earlier this month, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE embarked on a U.S.
tour with MACHINE HEAD, IRON REAGAN, and HAVOK supporting.
The band's latest album, "This Consequence", was released in February 2025 via Metal Blade, marking their ninth LP overall and sixth with Leach after his return to the group in 2012.
