In a new interview with Sandy Syn of the Sandstorm podcast, LACUNA COIL singer Andrea Ferro reflected on whether making new albums has become easier or more challenging more than 30 years after the band’s formation.

“I think it’s both,” Ferro said. “On one hand, we’re more experienced. We know what it takes to write an album, and we can feel when it has the right energy and will connect with fans. On the other hand, we’ve done a lot already, so it’s harder to keep the sound interesting after exploring so many of our characteristics as singers and composers.”

Ferro discussed the band’s evolving sound, citing influences from hardcore punk and extreme metal acts such as PANTERA, OBITUARY, MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, PARADISE LOST, and ANATHEMA. He also addressed LACUNA COIL’s use of clean vocals and their shift toward a heavier approach in recent years.

Talking about his own vocal style, Ferro said he draws inspiration from distinctive singers like SEPULTURA’s Max Cavalera, while continuing to experiment with more extreme techniques. He added that finding time to practice and develop new skills can be difficult while on tour.

LACUNA COIL’s latest album, Sleepless Empire, was released in February 2025 via Century Media Records. The band recently announced the second leg of their U.S. tour, scheduled for March 2026, with support from ESCAPE THE FATE, VOWWS, and AXTY.

The interview also touched on lineup changes, including the departure of longtime guitarist Diego Cavallotti in June 2024. Italian guitarist Daniele Salomone has since joined the band as his replacement.
