Veteran power metal band Masterplan has unveiled their seventh studio full-length, Metalmorphosis, the first new original material since Novum Initium in 2008.
The album marks a return to form for the German-Swedish collective, led by guitarist Roland Grapow and vocalist Rick Altzi, who brings a unique tone to the table reminiscent of Jorn Lande.
Opener "Chase The Light" showcases their traditional sound, while tracks like "Electric Nights," "Shadow Man," and "Bound To Fall" demonstrate a mix of styles that owes as much to Finnish acts as it does to their Teutonic heritage.
With a healthy dose of orchestral flair on "Chase The Light" and some galloping action in "Through The Storm," Metalmorphosis is sure to please fans who have been waiting for new material from the band since 2008.
While there's no major shake-up or stylistic revolution here, it's clear that Masterplan has retained their chops after many years of singles and live albums, proving they're still a force to be reckoned with in the power metal scene.
