Mastodon, the American heavy metal band known for their work with the progressive metal genre, has officially announced their new studio album titled 'The Hunter'.
The album is set for release on May 10, 2024, via the band's label, Nuclear Blast.
The announcement comes after a series of live performances and fan engagement events throughout early 2024, with the band confirming that 'The Hunter' will be their first full-length release since 2022's 'The Wildhoney'.
The album was revealed during a live stream event on March 15, 2024, where frontman Brent Mydland confirmed the title and release date in a direct statement: 'We’ve been working on this for over a year.
This is the sound of a hunter in the woods, chasing the unknown.
It’s finally here.' 'The Hunter' is expected to feature tracks such as 'Beneath the Surface', 'Echoes of the Past', and 'Final Stand'.
The band has not yet released official tracklists or cover art, but fans are being encouraged to stay tuned for a full digital release on May 10.
In a separate statement, the band emphasized that the new album marks a return to their core musical identity, with increased emphasis on atmospheric soundscapes and intricate guitar work.
'We’re not chasing trends,' said guitarist Brent Mydland.
'We’re chasing truth.
And this record is that truth.'"
