In a recent interview with Australia's The Rockpit, former SEPULTURA and current SOULFLY frontman Max Cavalera spoke about his musical inspirations.

He cited Paul Simon as an influence, praising the artist's ability to reinvent himself creatively later in life.

Cavalera also emphasized the importance of staying curious and open to new sounds, citing his own experience as a testament to this approach.

Cavalera reflected on how he gets inspiration from various sources, including documentaries about musicians like Paul Simon.

He also expressed his ongoing enthusiasm for exploring different genres and finding new influences in music.

However, despite being open to diverse musical styles, Cavalera stressed the importance of maintaining the core essence of metal as a genre.

Regarding his own band SOULFLY, Cavalera discussed their latest album "Chama", released on October 24, 2025 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The album was co-produced by Max's son Zyon Cavalera and features contributions from various musicians, including Igor Amadeus Cavalera on bass and Mike DeLeon on guitar.

SOULFLY enlisted Carletta Parrish to create the album artwork.

In the interview, Cavalera also spoke about his own approach to creating music, balancing the pursuit of new sounds with staying true to his artistic vision.

He acknowledged that touring is a different experience from making music, but expressed enthusiasm for both aspects of being in a band.

Max Cavalera has been a driving force behind SOULFLY since its inception and remains an influential figure in the metal scene.
