In a new interview with Terry Palamara of Loud And Proud Italy, Megadeth bassist James LoMenzo expressed his gratitude towards the fans who have supported their final effort, "Megadeth".

He stated that the album's success has been "walking on clouds" for him and the rest of the band.

LoMenzo acknowledged that the album's number one status in the US is a career high for him, surpassing any previous achievements he had experienced with Megadeth.

When asked about whether Dave Mustaine was aware early on that this would be Megadeth's final album, LoMenzo clarified that Mustaine never shared his intentions with the rest of the band until they were deep into the recording process.

Regarding his personal contributions to the album, LoMenzo revealed that he brought a unique approach to the music, focusing on supporting and elevating each song rather than trying to showcase himself as the lead musician.

He praised Dave Mustaine for being a "warrior" who knew exactly what the band's legacy should be, and how to bring it to a close with dignity.

The interview also touched upon LoMenzo's personal experiences writing songs with Mustaine, noting that his own bass playing style is centered around servicing the music rather than seeking individual spotlight.

The success of "Megadeth" has been well-documented, with the album debuting at number one on the US album chart after earning 73,000 equivalent album units in the week ending January 29.

This marks Megadeth's eighth top-ten-charting album and their highest chart position ever in several countries including Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, New Zealand, Austria, Australia and the UK.

The band's previous top ten entries on the Billboard 200 included "Countdown To Extinction", "Youthanasia", "Cryptic Writings", "United Abominations", "Endgame" and "Super Collider".

LoMenzo has expressed his pride in contributing to Megadeth's legacy, acknowledging that this album represents a culmination of the band's journey and a celebration of their impact on heavy metal music.

He reflected on the band's history, citing Steve Harris as one of the great metal bass players who lead their respective bands with authority.

The discussion highlights LoMenzo's commitment to supporting the music rather than personal ambition, reflecting his unique approach to bass playing in Megadeth.

The interview concludes by emphasizing LoMenzo's admiration for Mustaine's unwavering dedication to his vision and passion for bringing an iconic band to a fitting conclusion.
