In a recent clip on Gibson TV, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine talks about the rhythm guitarists who have influenced him the most.

He cites Malcolm Young of AC/DC as the best rhythm guitarist he's ever met, with Brian Tatler of Diamond Head and the Judas Priest and Iron Maiden guitarists being a close second.

The 'trinity' of rhythm guitarists in metal, according to Mustaine, consists of himself, James Hetfield of Metallica, and Malcolm Young.

In an interview on Brazil's Ibagenscast, Mustaine discussed Megadeth's decision to cover Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" for their latest album.

When asked about the song, he stated, "I've always thought that James was an excellent guitar player, so when we set out to do the song, we figured we needed to do it as good or better than the original." He went on to explain how Megadeth sped up the tempo slightly and added some new solo sections.

The band recently performed their rendition of "Ride The Lightning" live at Movistar Arena in Bogota, Colombia, with official video footage available by Cameron Nunez.

Meanwhile, BraveWords has reviewed the new Megadeth album, which can be ordered via Dave Mustaine's Tradecraft imprint and Frontiers Label Group's BLKIIBLK label.

In related news, Megadeth will be special guests on Iron Maiden's Run For Your Lives World Tour 2026 in North America.
