In a new interview with Finland's Chaoszine, MEGADETH guitarist Teemu MĂ€ntysaari spoke about the making of the band's final album.
The album was released late last month via Tradecraft imprint on Frontiers Label Group's new BLKIIBLK label.
According to MĂ€ntysaari, the album took 10 months to create in the studio and was a lengthy but enjoyable process.
He noted that many of the songs came together spontaneously through improvised jams with all the band members involved.
The guitarist also discussed how he approached recording the album, trying not to stress about the legacy of the band or competing with their classic albums.
Instead, he focused on creating something fresh and new while incorporating elements from different eras of the band's sound.
MĂ€ntysaari spoke about his contributions to the album, revealing that Dave Mustaine had initially asked him and other band members for riff ideas.
The guitarist recalled listening through all 200 songs in the MEGADETH catalog with the rest of the band, making notes on what they liked and using these as inspiration for new ideas.
The interview also touches on how the band handled the recording process in a big room with both live equipment and studio gear set up.
This allowed them to jam together and come up with song ideas more easily.
The album debuted at number one on the US album chart after earning 73,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release.
The majority of this sum came from pure album sales, totaling 69,000.,MEGADETH also reached number one in Australia and Austria.
Their new album claimed top spots in Finland (highest previous position number two), Sweden, Belgium, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and New Zealand as well.
The band's previous top 10-charting albums include "Countdown To Extinction", "Youthanasia", "Cryptic Writings", "United Abominations", "Endgame", "Super Collider", and "Dystopia".
The new album was produced by Chris Rakestraw, who previously worked on MEGADETH's last two LPs.,This marks the end of an era for MEGADETH as they release their final album.
