Megadeth have announced their self-titled album and global farewell tour will conclude the band's run in 2026, but bassist James LoMenzo suggests this might not be a permanent closing chapter.

Speaking with Loud And Proud Italy, LoMenzo acknowledged that while the current era is intended as a proper final chapter for Megadeth, the idea of creating new music in the future hasn't been ruled out.

"There's no law that says we can't make music," he explained, pointing to the example of legendary bands continually producing new material despite their farewell tours.

According to LoMenzo, while the band hasn't discussed making more music beyond the farewell campaign, nothing prevents them from doing so creatively or legally.

Despite hints of potential future music, LoMenzo emphasized that Megadeth's farewell tour and album are genuine, not a marketing gimmick like some past "last tours".

Bandleader Dave Mustaine is committed to ending the band on their own terms, with LoMenzo stating, "We're not doing this to cash in or cash out.

We're doing this to be sincere and to really bring the legacy to its closure." The album title Megadeth reflects this philosophy of closure and finality.

"For that reason, calling the album Megadeth was the logical title," LoMenzo added.
