Mercyful Fate has confirmed its first live performance in more than three years, set for August 11 to 14, 2027, at the Leyendas Del Rock festival in Villena, Alicante, Spain.
The announcement was made on Thursday, August 6, via the band's social media channels.
The festival marks a significant return for the Danish heavy metal act, which last performed at Brazil's Summer Breeze festival in April 2024.
The current lineup includes King Diamond on vocals, Hank Shermann and Mike Wead on guitar, Bjarne T.
Holm on drums, and Becky Baldwin on bass.
Baldwin officially joined the band in January 2024, initially touring with Mercyful Fate in fall 2022 as a temporary replacement for Joey Vera.
The band is currently developing a new album, with a track titled "The Jackal Of Salzburg" debuted in June 2022 during performances in Germany and at Psycho Las Vegas.
Formed in early 1981 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Mercyful Fate released their self-titled EP in 1982 and followed it with the debut full-length album "Melissa" in 1983.
Their 1984 album "Don't Break The Oath" solidified their presence in the metal scene, with early tours including performances alongside MOTÖRHEAD and EXCITER.
The band went on hiatus in 1985 but reunited in 1992, releasing the album "In The Shadows" in 1993.
Their 1999 album "9" earned critical acclaim and was followed by a European tour with METALLICA, during which King Diamond and Hank Shermann joined the band for a medley of the band's signature song.
After a decade-long absence, Mercyful Fate resumed touring in 2011 with a special appearance at METALLICA's 30th-anniversary show in San Francisco."
