METALLICA kicked off the 2026 leg of its world tour, "M72", at Athens's Olympic Stadium on May 9.

Supporting acts for this sold-out show included GOJIRA and KNOCKED LOOSE.,During the concert, METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo performed iconic songs by Greek composers Mikis Theodorakis ("Zorba's Dance") and Nikos Mamoulas ("You Don't Fit Anywhere").

They also covered Greek rock band TRIPES' song "You Don't Fit Anywhere".,"This unique approach marks METALLICA's first live appearances playing non-metal covers since Hammett mentioned learning the phonetic pronunciation of local languages for past tours.

He and Trujillo have been researching cities to find interesting songs from various genres for their live performances.

Their rendition of CHIC's "Le Freak" in Amsterdam sparked the idea after Kirk was initially hesitant about it.,This tour marks METALLICA's eleventh outing supporting its 2023 album, "72 Seasons".

It features a diverse range of covers chosen from local artists, with the band donating a portion of ticket sales to local charities through their All Within My Hands foundation.

Established in 2017, this organization has raised over $20 million for vocational and technical education, food insecurity relief, and disaster response initiatives.
