Heavy metal legends Metallica set a new attendance record at their first live concert of 2026 over the weekend.

The band kicked off the latest leg of their multi-year M72 World Tour with a sold-out show at Athens Olympic Stadium on Saturday night (May 9), attracting an impressive crowd of 90,000 fans.

The massive turnout has been confirmed by Metallica themselves, who took to social media to express their gratitude and excitement.

The band wrote: “Wow!! Massive thanks to the #MetallicaFamily in Greece for setting a new attendance record Saturday night at Athens Olympic Stadium! Over 90,000 of you packed in, and trust us… we could feel it! The setlist for the show featured an impressive range of Metallica classics, including "Creeping Death", “For Whom The Bell Tolls”, “Moth Into Flame”, “King Nothing”, “Lux Aeterna”, “The Unforgiven”, “Fuel”, “Zobra's Dance and De Horas Pouthena”, and many more.
