Former Misfits frontman Michale Graves is facing backlash after a wave of concert cancellations in the UK due to his past far-right associations.
Graves, who was part of the iconic horror-punk band from 1995 to 2000 and appeared on American Psycho (1997) and Famous Monsters (1999), has seen venues drop his gigs amid protests.
The controversy stems from Graves' involvement with the Proud Boys in 2020 and his presence at a private party for the far-right group on January 6, 2021, where he testified in defense of several participants in the insurrection.
A Worcester councillor has openly criticized the Marrs Bar for keeping Graves' show on the calendar, calling him a "fascist." In response to the cancellations, Graves posted a lengthy statement on Instagram defending his remaining European dates and addressing the controversy surrounding his past associations.
He maintains that his shows are about music, community, and shared passion, and insists that he does not promote violence or hatred.
In his statement, Graves urged those who disagree with him to remain peaceful and respect the hardworking people behind these venues.
While some have chosen not to attend his shows, others have come out in support of him and the live music scene.
Despite the controversy surrounding his past associations, Graves remains committed to sharing music in a positive, safe, and respectful environment.
