Miss May I has announced the release of a new album titled "No Place For Me", set for October 2 via Solid State Records. The band also premiered the video for the new single "Death Threat", which was created as a DIY project by the group. The video was shot at the band's own properties and produced by William Story, with contributions from the band members.
The album marks a significant evolution in the band's sound, with the new lineup featuring Levi Benton, Jerod Boyd, Ryan Neff, and Elisha Mullins. The band confirmed that the original guitarists, B.J. Stead and Justin Aufdemkampe, departed in 2024, with Elisha Mullins joining as the new guitarist. The group emphasized that the shift in lineup influenced the creative direction, introducing new soundscapes and a reduced rhythm guitar presence that reflects their transition to a four-piece configuration.
Benton described the album as a cathartic journey that captures personal growth and emotional clarity. The track listing includes songs such as "Sanctuary," "Portrait Of Pain," and "Pray For Silence," with the latter being highlighted as the album's most melodic piece. The band stated that the new material features extensive experimentation with soundscapes, a departure from their previous work.
Miss May I joined Solid State Records in 2024 and released the 15th-anniversary re-recording of their debut album, "Apologies Are For The Weak," which featured cameos from Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red, Brandan Schieppati of Bleeding Through, and Scott Lewis of Carnifex. The band praised the label's trust in their creative process, noting that they are now able to take their time and refine their work without external pressure.
The group has maintained a strong presence in the metalcore scene since their 2007 emergence, with breakthrough albums like "At Heart" (2012), "Deathless" (2015), and "Shadows Inside" (2017) achieving notable chart success. Their 2022 album "Curse Of Existence" received widespread critical acclaim, and the band has toured with major acts including KISSSWITCH ENGAGE, PARKWAY DRIVE, and MOTIONLESS IN WHITE. The new album is expected to mark a pivotal moment in their career, blending emotional depth with innovative sonic elements.
